Autism and Neurodiversity Podcast: Why Traditional Therapeutic Approaches Are Failing OCD / Neurodivergents with Josh Doyle, M.ED

In my recent appearance on the Autism & Neurodiverty podcast with Jason and Debbie Grygla, we delved into the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals, particularly when traditional therapeutic approaches for OCD fall short. We discussed how these methods, while effective for some, can actually exacerbate issues for those with neurodiversity. The conversation highlighted the importance of tailoring treatment strategies to meet the unique needs of neurodivergent children, adolescents, and young adults, especially when it comes to their emotional and behavioral challenges.

Parents play a critical role in supporting their neurodivergent children, but many unknowingly make a common mistake: trying to "fix" their child’s behavior, which can increase frustration and anxiety. Instead, the focus should be on understanding their child’s unique perspective and needs. During the podcast, I shared practical strategies for parents to foster a supportive environment, encourage independence, and avoid counterproductive approaches.
